Donatella Versace

In 1997, the irreplaceable Gianni Versace was murdered by a madman on the steps of his spectacular villa “Casa Casuarina” in Miami. It was the tragic demise of a myth, a wound that hit the fashion industry hard. Yet his sister Donatella “bit the bullet”, Mars in Gemini inspiring her to carry his flag, to not let years of hard work turn to ashes. “The show has gone on” and she even now she organises couture shows, furniture design, hosts stunning parties for her celebrity friends! But after Gianni’s death the whole Versace family moved to a sheltered environment in the Caribbean, and took their time to grieve. She did not want Gianni’s death to end up a tragedy that eclipsed the wonders of what he had created. She wanted to participate, she wanted to fiddle with cloth and designs, but ended up being her brother’s support system, an inspired critic of his style, her down to earth approach a framework within which Gianni created exclusive fashion trends unhindered. She was the “power behind his throne”, her Taurean grasp on earthly reality enabling her to run the show, and what was to become a colossal fashion empire. She perused the small print, followed the twists and turns of Italian bureaucracy and demanded excellence of herself and her staff.

She could not deal with double talkers but was ready with the tea and sympathy if you needed a shoulder to cry on. She listened to Gianni’s emotional woes. Mars in Gemini could have made her impatient, she could have nagged him, criticized him. She would have delivered hard headed advice, made him face up to his more pedestrian, versus creative, responsibilities, like the smooth running of a show, the right attitude to the press. She was indeed inspired to guide her brother thru the obstacle race of running the first throes of a successful fashion house in Italy. Yet Gianni never felt brow beaten, he got used to her pep talks, her Jupiter in Cancer would have made him realise her comments were for his own good, he knew how deeply she loved him, how well she stood up for the Versace family. There is no doubt she led him on to glittering international success. Perhaps because she had seen her own mother grapple with material problems when her parents divorced, she had always respected persistence, knew it was fundamental to success.

Interestingly, her north node in Sagittarius inspires her to look at the metaphysical aspects of life, realising there is something unexplained about the nature of reality. Good old Saggy would encourage an open hearted approach to communication too, helping her to inspire her perfect ambassadors for Versace fashion, Sir Elton John, Liz Hurley, Catherine Zeta Jones, Kate Moss, to name but a few, and they all adore her! She encourages them to parade in her shows, rewarding them with gifts and loving attention.  She is indeed the heart of   any social event, generous, dependable, helpful, kind, imaginative, revelling in the limelight, still ready to come to terms with problems, and defy challenges. Life would be boring for Donetella if there were no stimulation to it. Her stress levels hold up a well defined nine on the Richter scale. Only someone so tough and strong could have continued to fight on for beauty, style and her brother’s vision. It has to be faced Donatella is a rock, an earthy woman whom others can rely on, a perfect advertisement for her brother’s unique style and creative flair.

A well-placed Venus makes sure that even with the present world credit crunch nothing can touch the future of the Versace industry. She will feel less concerned anyway; she will just flow into all the abundance she has created, enjoying her life, taking more breaks and holidays, knowing that she has succeeded in carrying Gianni’s flame high for all to see. You can bet her celebrity friends will receive more gifts from her, she will also want to be of service to others in some way, perhaps donate a massive amount to charity. Even though she has seen the death of her beloved brother and it hit her to the core, Donatella knows that life has blessed her, and as time goes on she will appreciate all she has given, and all that she will continue to receive. Yes, the moon shines gently on her and her family now, and will continue to do so for years to come. Her success was hard won, it did not come on a silver platter, and nothing was gifted to her.
