Who was it that said those hills are more than alive with the “Sound of Music” when Julie is around? Perhaps someone in the depths of depression, someone who plays back a DVD of the “Sound of Music” every day to cheer themselves up.
Julie, winner of an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, a Bafta and more, still maintains vestiges of that child genius whose voice could freakishly explode into a ear splitting high “C” breaking a champagne glass and many a heart. We still love Julie.
We adored her as the archetypal British Nanny with a magical bent in Mary Poppins. Worshipped her as the irrepressible cockney Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, sided with her as the beautiful Queen Guinevere in stage version of Camelot. We would identify with the purity of “the good old days” in her smile. She reminded us of what we yearned for; you know decency, kindness and romance. Born under the sign of Libra Julie hates to be thought of as wholesome but who could possibly see her in any other way. She is pure mythology, a nightingale that enchants one to 90 year olds and makes us all believe in our dreams of true love. But what is she truly made of? Pure Surrey genes for a start, her parents were Vaudeville performers and she toured with them. Her talent was obviously genetic, but the angels gave her many other gifts too, including something intangible she herself does not understand. A capacity to stand up to manipulating relatives and a rather drab, hard working childhood perhaps?
She found singing a pain as a child, and did not accept her destiny as easily as one would think. She wanted to get her dress dirty and play catch with her friends. She stamped her little foot quite rightly now and then; being famous was far too stressful for a twelve year old. But hang on a minute, Julie is Libran with a moon in Scorpio, so would you be surprised to learn that she can crack a joke, with a certain amount of raucous hilarity? That she might concentrate on the darker elements of life, and get rather depressed by them? That it would be all she could do to rise in the morning when she gets into one of those moods? That she might like to burn the midnight oil not just staring at the moon but chatting, sorry arguing about politics, the state of the world, anything? She will always win discussions, her perceptions are acute, in-depth, she will take no nonsense, no hypocrisy and no cover-ups. She wants to tell, feel and see it “how it is!” The truth is essential to her happiness; she will never resemble Maria in the Sound of Music. She would not hang out for one minute with the rather chauvinistic Colonel Von Trapp. She is a far more complex individual than her roles on stage and screen make us believe.
With Venus in Virgo, Julie enjoys married life, is a pal, a great “backer upper” but for God’s sake do not squeeze your toothpaste from the middle of the tube, or leave hairs in the sink, it will send Julie up the wall and down it. She likes her partner to be together, well turned out, like she is, able to control emotions and utilise God given gifts to the utmost like husband Blake Edwards, the famous director who produced the Pink Panther series and Hollywood Party starring Peter Sellers. Julie’s Jupiter in Scorpio would have made her want to break away from those “nice” roles in the eighties, move on from that “goody goody” persona. She got involved with a couple of film projects directed by hubby Blake, such as S.O.B or Victor Victoria, where she worked hard at her role as a bisexual. But they never really took off. None of us could take Julie as a character more true to who she really was, a profound woman, who wonders about the meaning of life that still has edges to her, and “nice” is not one of them. Who is far more in tune with the more mysterious side of human nature than we could ever imagine.
Never mind, Julie is tough. She can stand her public’s disapproval, she will always soldier on. She underwent throat surgery not long ago, but being the trooper she is, she still managed to host a television show in 2008. Saturn in Pisces will see to it that she stands up to fears for the well being of her family and friends. She will donate sizeable amounts of her money to charity and roll up her sleeves in a minute to help virtually anyone she cares about, out. Julie is a solid soul, steady, notwithstanding her traumatic childhood. She will work so hard people might tell her to stop. But she will continue to make things happen.
This year she will find another purpose and it has to do with love. A more cosmic type of love, but love all the same. Fateful events will make her turn an intriguing corner and lift her life into something far more beautiful and significant than she could imagine, and it will have nothing to do with show biz, it will have Julie and her soul. God bless her! .
