Miuccia Prada

Prada is one of the most successful Italian fashion outlets in the world. It is a highly influential label, significant for its innovative style, luxurious designs, and star studded reputation. The Prada story began in Milan in 1913. Back then, the Fratelli Prada were popular for their sleek luxury leather goods and luggage and the company acquired great fashion Kudos, catering even then to a more exclusive, and high class type of clientele. It was when the grounded and strong willed Taurus, Miuccia Prada, joined the family company in the seventies that Prada would become a glittering name in the fashionista firmanent. Miuccia was initially an unlikely candidate for success in her family’s company. Yet eventually she would surprise everyone, as her Taurean perception of life would have made her stubborn and grounded enough to enter the business, stand up to the difficulties, and make a huge success of it. She can basically do anything she sets her mind to; she has method, flair, and is as smart as a button.
With her moon in the sign of Libra, she integrates her deep love of beauty and form into her stylish products. She has always had a sort of elegant panache to her persona, even if she is no glamour puss. Instead she has a basic vibe, and could be mistaken for a Milanese housewife if you met her in the street. In the seventies, she used to be a mime artist, member of the communist party and a feminist, with a degree in political science. She was a product of the times and like many of her generation, flower power, contesting the government’s modus operandi etc. were all part and parcel of her reality. When she took over Prada, she and her husband Patrizio created inspiring designs that would eventually lead to a fashion “feeding frenzy”. With her Venus in Taurus, she has a very straight forward way of expressing herself verbally, her mind is astute, she can dig deep into seemingly irresolvable problems with extreme thoroughness, and these gifts have always helped her when it came to the business side of Prada. As far as her personal relationships are concerned, she appears warm, but there is a certain distance to her, which gifts her with an unusual kudos when it comes to social events. Never deviating from her basic premise that the Prada label should continue to be a standard bearer for original, luxury items Miuccia concentrated on her innovative design, with an uncanny knack of mixing unusual combinations of leather and fabric, to bring about a revolutionary perception to a more original and avant garde product.
She said, “In the end, fabric is fabric. What is really new is the way you treat it and put the pieces together.” With that energised Mars in Taurus she has a manual grasp on the creation of a product, its form, its expression, all guided with realistic flair. She produces the dreamiest products, stringing various aspects together and fusing them into one, amalgamated, and gorgeous product. With her Jupiter shining gracefully in Aquarius, she is a pioneer, with ground breaking vision. Time Magazine described Prada as “unassertive, combining traditional good manners and an ultramodern industrial sleekness.” She has a fantastic sense of form colour and symmetry, inherited from her family’s gene pool, together with that “Star quality” Jupiter in Aquarius, she could not fail to create extraordinary products. Her original handbags were immediately pounced on by a fine array of assorted movers and shakers, actors and show biz folk, for example Jerry Hall, who just went ballistic about her designs.
She has managed to create such a distinctive style, for example a transparent raincoat that becomes opaque when it rains, that many are mesmerized by such novel elegance. She has been living in the same apartment for years, and is a private person, totally immersed in her “cult like” craft, so cultish that a film was named after her products, i.e. the very entertaining “The Devil Wears Prada” starring Meryl Streep and Anna Hathaway. Her Saturn in Leo will strike that “privacy” contrast against her super communicative attitude to PR people, models, clients and designers, especially when she is in the hub of a show, or catwalk shenanigans. This rather dual aspect to her personality could block her capacity to relate soulfully, to open herself out to people she does not know in her private life. She guards her fine intelligence and elegant perceptions of reality with reserve, believing not everyone can understand them!
An Aries influence in a sensitive area of her astro sky can push people away, making her appear rather aloof, even superior. She could be prone to moments of soulful loneliness, that she would be hard pressed to admit, even to herself. The next couple of years will be of change, some things will have to let go of in order to pass on to a totally new cycle for the company. In fact she will move into a totally diverse way of reaching her public. She will always amaze with her consistently creative flair and fashion chutzpah though. So we can expect to see a new phase fashion manifest for Prada, and it will be all about harmony, but perhaps with a more user friendly take for the everyday man and woman.
